UEM Edgenta Disrupts Asset, Facility Management Industry With All-Inclusive Technology Drive

UEM Edgenta Berhad’s (UEM Edgenta) Command & Contact Center (CnC), located at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, applies the latest and innovative technology solutions to collect and distil data which is then analysed to enhance the performance of vital resources and systems to provide key data related to business accessed in real time.

Aside from being the core for managing and optimising asset performance, and to enhance data governance of various operations within a building to large geographical areas, it is the place where the overall operations of an organisation like monitoring, controlling and commanding are carried out.

UEM Edgenta’s CnC entails collecting vital information with critical communications systems received via sensors and a proprietary digital cloud which are connected to the centre. It further helps to manage the use of resources besides sharing of decisive commands, warnings, and alerts flawlessly for its clients.

UEM Edgenta Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said the use of advance technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning allows UEM Edgenta to improve the quality of its services and make predictive analysis through real-time data cantered at the Company’s CnC.

“Through enhanced technology solutions for the Asset and Facility Management industry, we are able to make predictive analysis to identify potential breakdowns and improve maintenance services regularly towards smarter and more efficient asset management.

We strive to bridge the gap between present and future service delivery – the Asset and Facilities Management industry is evolving fast, moving away from the traditional ‘maintain-repair-restore’ model towards an emphasis on Asset quality preservation and continuous operational optimisation of buildings, Townships and even cities. This paradigm shift opens the door for innovative Technology-based solutions, which we are delivering through Edgenta NXT,” he added.

A successful example of this was seen soon after UEM Edgenta developed a system known as the Road Asset Management System (RAMS), where it allows the company to plan road maintenance activities for the short and long term, in addition to prioritising its responsibility in managing more than 1,000 kilometres of highway assets for PLUS, he said.

The CnC also offers technology-driven Green Building Solutions and Asset Optimisation with a focus on enhancement and energy solutions that adapt a structured data driven energy management programme towards energy and cost reduction initiatives. It also improves the quality of life and work efficiencies by connecting people, assets and processes.

In optimising workplace productivity and minimising environmental impact towards a sustainable energy future, the CnC manages processes which has helped buildings and industries from various sectors to reduce operational cost and their carbon footprint.

Salient results of UEM Edgenta’s CnC include an average of 27% reduction in electricity consumption, 11% reduction in water consumption, and more than 20% increase in Chiller Coefficient of Performance (CCP).

The CnC also monitors the aspect of waste management where some 430kg of organic waste were diverted from landfill daily which has led to 12 tonnes of recyclable waste diverted from landfill annually.

With over 21 years of experience in Asset and Facilities Management, UEM Edgenta manages more than 10 GBI Certified Green Buildings which apply Energy Efficiency Solutions.

The Green Building Index (GBI) is Malaysia’s industry recognised green rating tool for buildings to promote sustainability in the built environment and raise awareness among the stakeholders and the public about environmental issues and our responsibility to the future generations.

“Through this technology, we are able to make predictive analysis to identify potential breakdowns and improve maintenance services regularly towards smarter asset management.

“The main advantage of this system, along with our combination of experience and specialization, allows us to make long-term asset management plans and maintain optimal maintenance working hours in several locations,” adding that UEM Edgenta Efforts are aligned with Industry 4.0 for Operational Excellence which are being realised through its substantial investments, strategic partnering with local and international organisations for new forms of innovation and technology to be applied.

Meanwhile, Syahrunizam explained that Edgenta NXT is UEM Edgenta’s in-house digital venture, established in July 2021, to commercialise technologies and technology-based intellectual properties to expedite the Edgenta-wide digital transformation and facilitate rapid international expansion.

Edgenta NXT had developed three proprietary technology products – Asseto, Asseto for Health and QuickMed – each of which digitalise manual processes and facilitate data-driven insights to improve efficiency, enable better decision making and deliver bottom line results by continuously adding to these offerings through integration with ecosystem partners and reputable technology innovators globally.

“By driving our differentiation, deepening its solutions base and enabling cost optimisation, Edgenta NXT is not only growing a new revenue stream for the Edgenta Group but is also the key catalyst behind our Edgenta of The Future 2025 (EoTF2025) goals, empowering the Company on its journey to become a Technology-Enabled Solutions Company.

In this direction, Edgenta NXT will host the exclusive, ‘Cracking IoT Conference Chapter 2’, a key symposium which aims to shed more light on innovations and discoveries from the Internet of Things (“IoT”).

Together with its partner based in Dubai, Disrupt-X, a major global digital technology player, and Edgenta NXT will bring together leading experts in the field of IoT from across the globe to discuss its vast potential by exchanging best practices and knowledge on some of the world’s greatest technological advancements.

Edgenta NXT’s efforts it is in line with UEM Edgenta’s goal to constantly find new ways to strengthen business offerings guided by technological advancement to enable society to prepare for the future.

On the symposium, Syahrunizam said “We have remained steadfast in executing our Edgenta of the Future 2025 (“EoTF25”) strategy, which focuses on driving technology and advancing sustainability in all aspects of our business. This has allowed us to strengthen our international presence and enhance our capabilities to provide technology-enabled solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers and stakeholders. We are also expanding into new sectors that offer higher margins and more promising growth opportunities, such as manufacturing, education and hospitality industries across Singapore and Taiwan. We are leveraging our technology and sustainability solutions in asset and facilities management to expand our addressable market in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“We have also seen a strong interest in digital asset management in the healthcare industry, resulting in the development of Asseto for Health. This solution is specifically designed for hospitals, allowing healthcare providers to gain better insights, improve asset quality and comply with increasingly complex healthcare regulations.”

“Furthermore, we focused on building a tech ecosystem of Smart City solutions. Our partnerships with companies like Alibaba, ITMAX, Disrupt-X, Softbank and Sumitomo have enabled our customers to adopt advanced technologies for carbon emissions accounting, facial recognition-based access and security, smart traffic management and IoT into their building and operational management systems. As the Smart Facility Management industry matures, these new technologies help us shift our focus from managing individual assets to driving value, connectivity and efficiency across entire townships and eventually cities, leading our evolution towards becoming a holistic Smart City enabler. Our efforts to enhance our product and technology offerings have allowed us to differentiate ourselves in the market and win significant contracts while providing innovative and efficient solutions to our clients.”
