Bursa, Regional Bourses In Red Ahead Of U.S. Debt Voting

Bursa Malaysia and its regional peers fell into the negative territory at midday as the risk-off mode increased amid uncertainties over whether the US Congress will resolve the debt ceiling impasse on Wednesday (May 31).

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell by 3.63 points to 1,393.28 from 1,396.91 at Tuesday’s close.

The barometer index opened 0.23 points lower at 1,396.68, subsequently fluctuating between 1,391.93 and 1,398.38 throughout the morning trading session.

The broader market was bearish with decliners leading advancers 452 to 295, while 343 counters were unchanged, 1,158 untraded and 34 others suspended.

Turnover stood at RM1.61 billion worth RM1 billion.
