UEM Edgenta, PERKESO Health Screening Programme To Improve Workers Well-Being Through Disease Prevention

UEM Edgenta recently collaborated with Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) for a comprehensive Health Screening Programme 3.0 (HSP 3.0) for its employees at the UEM Edgenta Learning Centre (UELC).

The PERKESO HSP 3.0 is one of the initiatives by the ministry and PERKESO to realise the government’s aspiration of “Developing Malaysia Madani” through the 2023 Budget. It covers a wide range of activities, from screening by HSP Panel Clinic, physical examination, mental health screening, consultation, liver function test, to pap smear for female employees.

Under the ministry’s initiative, complimentary Health Screening Programme are undertaken for eligible contributors of PERKESO until Dec 31, 2023 at designated locations.

In his speech at the launch, Deputy Minister Tuan Mustapha Sakmud said the latest initiative is more comprehensive to detect more risk factors in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD). Through early detection of NCD, he said workers could take early and appropriate action to become healthy, competitive and productive.

Shaiful Subhan, Managing Director of Edgenta Mediserve Sdn Bhd and Head of Healthcare Solutions of UEM Edgenta said “This is an important component of the company’s caring attitude programme to ensure that employees continue to be healthy and productive”.

“UEM Edgenta has always prioritised on the health and the well-being of employees who are encouraged to be proactive towards leading a healthy lifestyle by taking periodical health screenings to identify potential health concerns earlier on,” he added.

In the past year, he said “UEM Edgenta had also run various health-related programmes for employees to lose weight, cease smoking and have healthy mental well-being. The company is aspiring to be recognised as a workplace that is physically and emotionally safe for employees because the company believes that programmes and initiatives that give rise to healthy and competent citizens will also help raise productivity in the workplace”.

According to Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohammed Azman, prevention of NCD should be made a priority as NCD can negatively affect the livelihoods of employees because NCD complications can reduce an individual’s ability to work or cause early death. “Employees are a key asset for any organisation in driving operations and businesses. Therefore, employee health and wellbeing are closely related to the company’s productivity and profitability,” he said.
