Malaysian Virologist Receives Prestigious UniteHealth COVID-19 Influencers Award

Dr Vinod Balasubramaniam, a molecular virologist from the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia, has received the esteemed UniteHealth 2023 COVID-19 Influencers Social Media Award. This accolade is presented as part of UniteHealth’s campaign, which aims to recognise and celebrate individuals worldwide who have effectively utilised social media to bring clarity to the COVID-19 pandemic and advance global health. Noteworthy contributions include disseminating accurate information, dispelling myths, sharing personal experiences, and raising awareness about the virus.

Out of over 300 nominees, Dr Vinod emerged as the distinguished winner in the “Understanding the Virus” category, making him the sole recipient from Malaysia to receive this prestigious honour. Dr Vinod was nominated for the award in recognition of his invaluable contributions to public education regarding vaccine advocacy, in-depth knowledge of the virus, and other critical aspects related to the pandemic. 

The selection of winners in each award category was determined through a meticulous evaluation process, considering various factors such as the number of votes received by each nominee, their statements highlighting the value of social media during the pandemic, and their individual use of social channels for disseminating vital information.
