PTT Outdoor and TAHAN: Taking Malaysians Camping, One Tent At A Time

For a lot of us, camping may be as alien as snowboarding, and that is despite living in a beautiful country filled to the brim with luscious greens and breathtaking views right in our backyard. A whole world of memories where one connects with nature, the possibilities of adventure, Malaysians do not seem to think it is something meant for them. 

With the heavy perceived cost and lack for readily available outdoor education, camping in Malaysia seems fated to plateau in the background, a door that has unlocked that no one seems to be able to know how to open, PTT Outdoor hopes to be the crack in the door with their new brand, TAHAN.

The lovers behind PTT Outdoor and TAHAN

In the pursuit of his passion for the great outdoors, the founder, Mike Chu found himself yearning for a convenient and reliable source of hiking and camping gear in Malaysia. Frustrated with the limited options available locally, he set out to establish TAHAN, a brand designed to cater to Malaysian outdoor enthusiasts’ needs and a gateway for those who have yet to set a foot in the world of camping by maintaining a platform of education and online shopping meant for anyone to take part in. PTT Outdoor has been taking it upon themselves to educate the public on the ins and outs of camping through their blog and social media pages, in efforts to get Malaysians educated and out there camping.

PTT Outdoor is a bootstrap startup proudly powered by a team with love for nature and adventure that was envisioned as a platform where Malaysians could easily access high-quality outdoor gear all from a local store that understands what it is like to camp in Malaysia. As weeks turned into months, and months into years, PTT Outdoor’s journey to be the go-to destination for outdoor gear. All the experience accumulated throughout the past 150 weeks set the foundation for the next phase of its journey – the birth of TAHAN.

Malaysia, Nature, TAHAN: Sights to live for but how do we reach them?

Do you remember the first time you saw a sight you couldn’t take your eyes off? A majestic lake close to your hometown, the stars at night during a blackout, or even the sight of your family laughing over something silly during a sleepover? These sights, sounds and experiences are something one could only truly experience with the right equipment, and the lack of education on outdoor and camping necessities is where PTT Outdoor wants to step in with TAHAN.

To make the outdoors more accessible to everyone, especially busy, on-the-go weekend campers who value convenience, style, and quality is what TAHAN’S brand mission is.

The name “TAHAN” not only draws inspiration from Malaysia’s awe-inspiring landscapes but also pays homage to Mount Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia. It serves as a reminder of the remarkable mountains that grace our land and the awe-inspiring adventures that await those who dare to explore them. Just as Mount Tahan stands tall and beckons adventurers, TAHAN camping gear aims to empower outdoor enthusiasts to embrace the spirit of exploration, to connect with nature, and to embark on unforgettable journeys. With each product bearing the name TAHAN, they strive to capture the essence of Malaysia’s breathtaking landscapes.

TAHAN: The Future 

Today, TAHAN hopes to reflect PTT Outdoor’s unwavering commitment and the collective efforts of their passionate team. The brand has expanded its product range, offering a carefully curated selection of outdoor equipment that caters to the diverse needs of outdoor enthusiasts across Malaysia, doing its utmost to deliver on its promise of reliability and quality, regardless of their budget.

Looking ahead, TAHAN’s vision extends beyond the borders of Malaysia as a known name in the international camping market. “Courage is what you earn when you’ve been through tough times and you discover they aren’t so tough after all.” are a string of words TAHAN hopes to instill in every single purchase made by a customer, and to be remembered every time a tent is set, and an adventure begins.
