Govt Affirms Its Commitment To Protecting Rights Of Domestic Workers In Malaysia

On July 6, the Minister of Human Resources, V. Sivakumar, held a crucial meeting with the Association for the Basic Rights of Domestic Workers, Ke Arah 189, to address pertinent issues faced by domestic workers in Malaysia. The discussion focused on key concerns such as wage payments and welfare for domestic workers.

During the meeting, Minister V. Sivakumar reaffirmed the government’s steadfast dedication to enhancing and reinforcing the enforcement of labor laws throughout the country. He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring access to justice for all workers, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy towards any employer found guilty of violating the rights of their employees.

The Ministry of Human Resources consistently reminds employers of their obligations under the labor laws of Malaysia, which encompass the provision of fair wages and a safe working environment for employees. Employers who fail to fulfill these responsibilities will face legal consequences.

In order to combat such violations and provide a channel for domestic workers to voice their concerns, the Department of Labor of Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) encourages any employees who feel oppressed, neglected, or receive inadequate wages to report such instances to their office. The Ministry of Human Resources assures the public that all complaints will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
