The Selangor government is actively implementing various measures to achieve a 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, focusing on the optimal use of solar energy, says Hee Loy Sian.
The state executive councillor for the environment and green technology said the efforts include installing solar-powered lights across the state and building solar farms on lakes and unused land.
“Promoting the use of renewable energy is one of the efforts to cut carbon emissions by 45 per cent by 2030, followed by zero emissions in 2050.
“Other initiatives include waste-to-energy (WTE) projects and the construction of small hydroelectric stations in Batang Kali to generate electricity,” he said at a press conference following the installation of eight solar-powered lamp posts at SJKC Sungai Chua, which involved an allocation of RM20,000.
Meanwhile, Hee said the decision by electric vehicle (EV) company Tesla Inc to set up its headquarters, service centre and experience centre in Selangor this year further supports the state’s carbon reduction efforts.
He also expressed optimism that in the following five to ten years, the use of electric vehicles will increase in Selangor and that initiatives are being made to increase the number of EV charging stations.
Previously, Hee stated the state government has outlined three key directions to achieve the 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions target by 2030.
