Shah Alam Stadium Cost Around RM900 Million Not RM3.2 Billion, MB Claims

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has rubbished allegations by political rivals that the cost to redevelop Shah Alam Stadium could reach up to RM3.2 billion.

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman maintained that as per the initial agreement, the cost would remain between RM800 and RM900 million.

He said this was decided by the state executive council and Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI.

“The RM3.2 billion figure that is being bandied around is actually the total cost proposed by the developer (Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd or MRCB) to develop the entire 70-acre sports complex.

“This would include a hotel, theatre complex, multipurpose hall, integrated public transportation station and a recreational area,” he said in a video posted on Twitter last night.

In this regard, Amirudin said it is inaccurate to claim that the stadium alone would set the government back RM3.2 billion.

In an accompanying caption, Amirudin also took a swipe at Perikatan Nasional for being more interested in slander than focusing on policy issues.

Previously, on July 15 last year, Amirudin announced that MRCB had been appointed to carry out the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Stadium.

He said the project would be implemented in a public-private partnership, with MRCB bearing the cost of development without using public funds. In return, the company would be awarded a land swap in the surrounding area for development.

He added that the project is expected to begin as early as this year and be completed in 2026, in line with the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 nearby
