MCMC To Take Stern Action Against Person Insulting Royalties

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has warned those who upload or share any hateful content or views and insults involving Royal Institutions on social media and messaging applications.

This comes following an individual who disseminated content that is deemed an insult to the Royal Institution.

Accordingly, MCMC said it will continue to monitor and curb the spread of unauthentic information and statements involving the Royal Institution. Any sharing of false and insulting content is an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998 which if convicted can be fined a maximum of RM50,000 or imprisonment for one year or both.

Enforcement action by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be taken against those involved in accordance with the provisions of the law existing law to protect order and the interests of society.
