New Penang Ferry Fares: RM2 For Pedestrians, RM2.50 For Motorcyclist

Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) as the operator of Penang Ferry operations today (September 7) announced the fare for ferry passengers effective September 7 after free travel for the past month.

Adult pedestrians aged 12 and over are charged RM2.00, while children under 12 are charged RM1.00

In addition, motorcycle users are required to pay RM2.50, while cyclists are required to pay RM2.00

“In an effort to improve the ferry experience and maintain the best service standards, PPSB is pleased to announce new ferry fares for passengers at Pangkala Raja Tun Uda (PRTU), George Town and Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH), Butterworth. The updated rates will take effect on September 7, 2023.

“This new ferry fare reflects our commitment and efforts towards continuous improvement for all passengers while supporting the improvement of ferry service facilities.

“Our aim is to provide a safe, easy and enjoyable journey for everyone and these changes play an important role in achieving that objective,” PPSB said in a statement today.

In addition to this new ferry fare, PPSB will also introduce a Monthly Pass in the future that offers discounts to ferry users.

The initiative, he said, aims to provide added value and convenience to loyal users of the transport service.

“We appreciate the passengers and thank them for their continued support. These changes will allow us to improve our high-quality, safe, efficient and accessible ferry services and facilities,” he added.

Four new-look ferries named as Teluk Bahang, Teluk Kampi, Teluk Duyung and Teluk Kumbar have started operations on August 7, replacing the iconic ferry that has ended its service.

The new ferry operates every day starting at 6.30am at PSAH and ending at 9.30pm at PRTU.

While at PRTU, the ferry will start at 7 am and end at 10 pm.

Previously, after 126 years of being the oldest form of transport in Penang, the iconic ferry service as an alternative route from Seberang Perai to the island side and vice versa has been replaced by speedboats from 1 January 2021 as a temporary mode of transport until the new ferry starts operating.

It also simultaneously stops ferry services for four-wheeled vehicles starting January 1, 2021 and is only used for motorcycle and bicycle travel.
