Application For The 3-Sub Sector Foreign Employee Recruitment Opens 10 October

With the approval of 7,500 foreign workers, the be agreed for the 3 specified sectors mainly barber shops, jewelry shops, and textile workers, the Human Resources Ministry has set new processes and criteria with which employers must comply.

Among the conditions, all applications made by the employer must be registered with the Trade Association India. For the sub-sector of goldsmiths and textile workers, if the floor area is the same or more than 1,000 square meters, eligibility is 15% of the total local workforce and if the floor area is equal to or exceeds 200- square meters but equal to or less than 999- square meter, the qualification is 3 to 4 people employee; and • if the floor area does not exceed 199-meters square, the qualification is 2 workers.

For the barber sub-sector, if there are 3 seats, 1 must be a local employee while the other 2 can be a foreign employee. Also, the entrepreneurs are required to have a Skill Certificate Malaysia recognized by the Government. The period of Employment for these employees is still based on the current policy which is 10 years + 3 years. For those already here, they will be based on the same contract period and can remain until the period expires.

MOHR will start accepting applications from October 10 and will remain open until all quota is fulfilled for the 3 sub-sectors. Temporary Work Visit Pass renewal application can be made by the employer for employees under the category this starts on 10 October 2023 as well.

Applicants will be able to know more about the process regarding application requirements and employee employment process foreign for the service subsector of barbers, jewelers, and textiles as they will be displayed through the MOHR website. The Ministry also reminds employers to comply with all provisions labour law including the provision of accommodation, minimum wage payment, SOCSO contribution, recruitment of local private employment agencies that have been licensed, and ensure agencies in source countries are also licensed as well other compliance so that the country is not labeled as a practicing country forced labor.
