The Selangor government will implement three of its five election pledges that it vowed to accomplish within 100 days of coming into power by this month.
This marks a significant milestone for the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional state administration, less than two months since it won the August 12 state election.
The three pledges that will be implemented this month, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, are the assessment tax exemptions for village homes and low-cost housing; an increase in allowances for imams, bilal, and siak; and RM1,000 incentives to 500 farmers, padi cultivators, and fishermen.
Amirudin said the two other pledges — RM200 Kita Selangor book voucher for university students and RM1,000 childcare costs financial aid for 5,000 working women — will be implemented next month.
“We will announce that later,” he said at a press conference at the State Secretariat Building, here, today.
Elaborating on the tax exemption initiative, Amirudin said a total of 426,656 homes in Selangor will benefit from the assistance for the July 1 to December 31 tax term.
In total, he said this will have a financial implication of RM29.42 million to local councils in the state.
“It is hoped this targeted aid will increase the disposable income and reduce the cost of living for the low-income group,” he said.
For the state’s agricultural and fishing incentive, Amirudin said RM500 would be paid in cash to beneficiaries, while the remaining RM500 would be channelled via the provision of crops, equipment and raw materials.
The aid will be distributed beginning October 31, with the cooperation of AgroBank Selangor and Koperasi Kohijrah Warga Hijrah Selangor Bhd.
As for the increased allowances for mosque personnel, which will be coordinated by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), Amirudin said the monthly income of 760 imams in the state will be increased from RM1,300 to RM1,500 starting October 25.
In addition, the allowances for 1,900 nazir, bilal, and siak will be increased by RM50 per month to RM300, RM340, and RM290, respectively, he said.
He added that the incentives involve an allocation of RM2.96 million and will be allocated annually as part of the state government’s effort to promote Islamic teachings in Selangor.
