Former Goldman Sachs bank officer, Roger Ng Chong Hwa is expected to arrive in Malaysia at midnight today to assist the authorities’ investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed this today.
He said the government’s focus was to recover the assets linked to the case, as of now authorities and enforcement agencies will carry out the investigation. Apart from the Attorney General other agencies are under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and expects him to arrive in Malaysia at midnight if there are no obstacles,
Yesterday, the media reported that Ng, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in New York, United States for helping embezzle billions of dollars from 1MDB, will be handed over to Malaysia to face charges in Malaysia. Saifuddin Nasution said Ng was only in the United States for a short time to face trial in that country. “He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison but has not yet served his sentence. The Home Minister said Malaysia has not finished yet with its investigation and hence had requested the United States’ Department of Justice to hand over Ng to Malaysia.
