Elon Rubbishes News Reports ‘X’ Exiting Europe

Elon Musk has rejected a media report about a possible withdrawal of his online platform X, formerly known as Twitter, from the European Union, reported dpa news.

This is “utterly false,” Musk wrote on X today, responding to a report by Business Insider that he considered blocking the service for users in the EU because of its requirements.

The trigger for a withdrawal would have been the tech billionaire’s dissatisfaction with the Digital Services Act (DSA), the website wrote, citing a person familiar with the company.

The DSA obliges large online platforms to take consistent and swift action against hate speech, among other things.

X recently received a list of questions from the European Commission, which wants to know more about how the social media platform meets its obligations.

The request followed evidence that calls for violence and misinformation were spreading on X after the Middle East conflict.
