i-License System Shortens Approval Period Of Six Licenses To 24 Hours

The approval period for six types of licenses has now been shortened from seven days to just 24 hours through the i-License System introduced by the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT).

Its minister Nga Kor Ming said the six licenses are Commercial, Industrial, Institutional Collection Licenses; Household Collection License; Public Cleaning License; Construction Collection License; Long Distance Transport License and Facility Operation Disposal License.

He said the i-License System developed by the National Solid Waste Management Department (JPSPN) together with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Corporation (SWCorp) will be able to increase the level of productivity by up to 90 percent compared to before.

“Through the i-License System, the period of time taken by JPSPN to approve a license application is 24 hours after payment is made, compared to seven days previously through the manual method,” he said in a speech at the Launching Ceremony of the Digitalization Initiative for the National Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Industry.

In the text of the speech read by KPKT Secretary-General Datuk M Noor Azman Taib, Nga said the license fee payment through the i-License System can be made “immediately, at any time and wherever the license applicant is”, compared to the previous method which is manual payment at the JPSPN counter.

He said more than 9,000 solid waste management and public cleaning service industry players can make license fee payments through Financial Process Exchange (FPX) with any of the 33 banking institutions that cooperate with Affin Islamic Bank Bhd.

“This contactless transaction will indirectly reduce the time and energy required by the company to be physically present at the ministry to make manual license fee payments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga said KPKT together with JPSPN plan to hold a competency development program for workers in solid waste management by giving employee competency cards.

He said the competency card is a recognition for workers in the field who are ensured to have received proper training and have a basic understanding of the Solid Waste Management And Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672) as well as the regulations under the act.

According to him, there are about 18,289 local workers involved in the 3D job sector (difficult, dangerous and dirty) who can improve their skills.
