KKD Will Call Social Media Providers To Discuss Issue Of Inappropriate Advertising

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) will call several social media application providers to discuss the issue of ugly ad content on the platforms involved.

The minister in question, Fahmi Fadzil, said the discussion was aimed at giving emphasis on ugly ads such as sexual ones that should not be played in this country.

“Normally, advertisements are presented to us based on what the algorithm thinks we like to watch and see. For example, if we like to see cars, then cars are presented. So I am aware of this issue.

“It is true that various social media platforms have their own algorithms, which is why this algorithm issue is quite problematic and it can result in a form of tunnel syndrome or an echo chamber,” he said.

He answered a supplementary question from Senator Hussin Ismail in the National Assembly who asked about the government’s efforts in blocking extreme advertising content in the media, especially social media.
