Anwar Criticises Attempts For Backdoor Government By Opposition

The top leadership at the Unity Government have again dismissed talks of opposition party Perikatan National’s attempts to form a “backdoor government”, following rumours which resurfaced after the recently held Kemaman by-election on December 2.

Marking the first anniversary of the Madani government, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamid, and Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadhilah Yusof had stated in unison that the Unity Government, formed together by 18 political parties, remains cohesive and dedicated to serving out its full term.

Anwar strongly criticised the Opposition for their ongoing attempts to disrupt the unity of the Federal administration.

“There is no ‘tebuk atap’ (political manoeuvring) here. Putrajaya’s support remains solid, much like a concrete roof, with no fractures,” he said.

Zahid concurred, noting that there are no ideological disputes between the political parties in power.

“Disagreements, if any, are about policy implementation, not party issues. However, all parties had rallied behind Anwar,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fadillah highlighted the government’s achievement of political stability, in line with the decree from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in forming a unity government.

“Once political stability is established, the government can focus on strengthening the economy, which is our current priority for the people.

“This unified approach is evident across all component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, and the Madani government,” Fadillah said.

The Federal leaders were responding to a public query at the event about political stability within the government.

Following the Kemaman by-election, in which PAS candidate Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar saw a landslide victory with 64,988 votes, speculation of a potential backdoor government resurfaced with talks by certain quarters for Umno to work together with PAS.

Barisan Nasional’s Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor secured 27,778 votes, marking a majority of 37,220 votes for PN to retain its electoral dominance in Terengganu.
