Prime Minister Heading To Kelantan As Flood Worsens In The State

After weeks of flooding and evacuation levels hit breaking points, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that he will visit Kelantan, a state that is led by the opposition party PAS.

The Prime Minister who is in Thailand for an official visit, said on a FB post that he will personally head down to Kelantan to inspect the flood situation that is currently affecting the state. The Kelantan State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat has informed that the number of flood victims in the state increased to 17,466 people from 5,510 families as of 8 this morning compared to 15,994 victims from 4,967 families recorded last night. All the victims in eight colonies have taken refuge in 89 temporary shelters.

Malaysia faces extreme weather usually at the end of the year and have become even more unpredictable in the past years. Last several states encountered their worst monsoon season with even Selangor being completely inundated with the situation. This year, as of 26 December a total of 6 states have been affected and over 28,000 displaced.
