Shangri La Malaysia MD Stepping Down After Short Stint

Shangri-La Hotels (Malaysia) Berhad which just recently announced the 5 year hotel management extension has now informed that its Managing Director Chan Kong Leong will be leaving the group in March 2024.

The group said Chan informed the board of his decision to resign from his role as Managing Director of the company with effect from 31.3.2024. According, the board also recorded its thanks and appreciation to Chans for his valued contribution to the SHMB Group and wishes him all the very best for the future.

Chan was appointed as MD in June 2022 and came with 20 years in private and public sector experience in managing investment, project development, asset management, operations, strategic planning, and other corporate functions.

Based in Singapore, Chan was driving all businesses in his region, including new investments, asset management, project design, development and management, and hotel operations. He is also responsible for the region’s finance and human resources units.

Before joining Shangri-La Group, Chan was the Chief Executive Officer of Suntec REIT and worked in CapitaLand Group where he held senior management roles including Senior Vice President/Head of Regional Investment, Asset and Fund Management of CapitaLand Mall Asia, and Regional General Manager, West China, CapitaLand Group.

He has a First-Class Honours in Bachelor of Science in Building from the National University of Singapore. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst Charter holder.

Shangri-La said it is in the process of putting in place an effective and orderly leadership succession plan.
