Raising Awareness On Renewable Energy

In response to the imperative for increased adoption of renewable energy and the government’s ambitious targets of achieving 40% renewable energy capacity by 2040 and 70% by 2050, the Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) has launched the MPIA Solar Roadshow 2024.

Key topics covered during the MPIA roadshow in Kuala Lumpur include: Grid Readiness Towards Enabling Energy Transition, Embracing the Future: The Rise of Green Jobs and Sustainable Careers, Unveiling the Electric Vehicle (EV) Landscape: Pioneering the Future of Sustainable Mobility and many more.

Featuring speakers from the solar PV industry supply chain, government bodies such as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), and the national energy utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the MPIA Solar Roadshow 2024 will unfold in five locations nationwide—Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, Pahang, and Selangor—until September 2024.

“To actualize our solar roadshow theme, ‘Liberalization of the Grid,’ collaboration is essential among the government, utility providers, Solar PV providers, and the citizens of Malaysia. The potential for solar installation is vast, with over 4 million buildings in our country capable of harnessing free and renewable energy from the sun. Yet, less than 1% of these buildings have adopted solar PV systems. These opportunities, if seized, would significantly contribute to grid liberalization,” stated Davis Chong, President of MPIA.

In contrast, MPIA highlights that Australia, with a smaller population than Malaysia, has already installed solar PV systems in over 2 million buildings.

The event is also in strategic collaboration with the Bursa Carbon Exchange a partnership that marks a significant stride in the augmentation of Malaysia’s voluntary Renewable Energy Certificates market formalized through a Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Collaboration. By leveraging the expertise of both MPIA and BCX, this partnership aims to create a robust and transparent market for renewable energy certificates in Malaysia.

The MPIA hopes that roadshows like this will enhance awareness about solar energy and foster greater interest in utilizing solar PV systems, especially as prices have become more affordable due to technological advancements and economies of scale.

The MPIA Solar Roadshow has garnered support from various quarters, with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), and MGTC serving as supporting organizations. Platinum sponsors include Astroenergy and Alliance Bank, with other sponsors which is JJ-Lapp Huawei, Hopewind, Hoymiles, LONGI, Ditrolic Energy, Solis, Sungrow, Master Tec Wire &Cable, North Consult Engineering, Solarvest, Jinko Solar and Prysmian group.

The KL leg saw a significant turnout of at least 350 people, and the roadshow will continue its journey to four other locations. The next destination is Johor on March 5, 2024. Interested participants can find additional details and register for free online at MPIA Events. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this insightful and engaging event as the solar roadshow continues across Malaysia.
