Buoyed by the post-pandemic travel boom, Tigerair Taiwan announced an average of 10.8 months’ bonus for its 800 employees for 2023.
Chairman of the budget carrier Chen Han-ming on Monday (Jan 15) revealed that the year-end bonuses were approved during a company board meeting.
t was agreed that employees would get four months’ salary, NT$20,000 (US$641) in standard bonuses and NT$50,000 TO NT$80,000 in performance-based bonuses, reported Focus Taiwan.
Along with the bonuses given in August and December last year, employees would receive an average of 10.8 months’ bonus, with some getting as many as 14 months.
Chen also said Tigerair Taiwan will increase employees’ salaries by an average of 11.48 per cent this year, while food allowances will be raised by 12 per cent.
Just a week earlier, the workers’ union had accused Tigerair Taiwan of overworking its employees, Taipei Times reported.
While each employee was said to have earned the airline NT$1.67 million last year, the union said that the airline’s salary increase was the lowest compared with other Taiwanese airlines, such as China Airlines, EVA Airways and Starlux Airlines, according to the report.
After the bonus announcement on Monday, the union thanked Tigerair Taiwan on social media, adding that their voices were heard.
Focus Taiwan reported that Tigerair Taiwan’s consolidated sales in 2023 reached a record of NT$12.57 billion – an increase of 848.29 per cent from the previous year – due to strong performance in passenger flights.
The company also announced the launch of new flights to Japan, China and Southeast Asia as part of expansion plans.
