Selangor has kicked start its free health screening roadshow where it will tour all 56 constituencies offering even early cancer detection screening.
State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said RM3.2 million has been allocated to make Selangor Saring a success, involving basic screenings that include physical examinations, blood and urine sampling.
Jamaliah said that the initiative, which will benefit 20,000 residents will also conduct early cancer screening to detect colorectal, prostate, cervical and breast cancer.
“Apart from that, the additional screenings include dental, eye, ear and physiotherapy for which we aim to screen between 300 and 500 individuals in each constituency.
“Individuals who want to conduct a screening can register via the Selangkah app and a screening coupon will be given based on the screening results obtained on the app,” she said at the launch of Selangor Saring 2024 programme at The Arc@Rimbayu here today.
According to Jamaliah, this year she has intensified cooperation with the State Health Department and the National Population and Family Development Board to ensure that more people can benefit from the screening.
“What is important is that we want the people to realise that preventive measures through early screening are very important.
“Prevention will greatly affect the quality of life because health conditions are closely related to the economy. If prevention and early screening is done and any diseases are detected there may be savings in terms of treatments available.”
The Selangor Saring Programme was introduced in 2022 to help residents detect diseases earlier by targeting individuals with a family history of disease, obesity and unhealthy lifestyles.
Through the presentation of the 2024 Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the allocation of RM3.2 million to continue the Selangor Saring programme.
