Malaysia’s smallest state, Perlis has achieved its agenda of shutting all gambling premises in the state after the last outlet was shut down on 6 March this year it said in a statement.

The State government before the last outlet there was 6 other outlets but were closed permanently last year. Perlis announced that it wanted to rid the state from gambling activities citing that it brings ill effects to its citizens, it made the call last year on its plans. However, the a miniscule number of legal gambling outlets, gaming company like Sports Toto and Magnum did not find the closure of affecting their overall business as those who are still keen can go to Penang to try to their luck.

But there is a concern on the rise of illegal gambling which the State seem to have not accounted in, when asked the administration just said it will have to work more closely with authorities in curbing such activities.

Nevertheless, Perlis also borders Thailand which does have legal gambling outlets spread across, this could also lead to more Malaysians heading across to place their bets leading to exit of local funds.
