PADU, A Chance For Government To Recalibrate The Economy

With Selangor having the lowest registration number on the central database application PADU based on its population size, Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged community leaders and residents’ association’s representatives to intensify their efforts in stressing to members of the public the importance of updating their information.

He said the community must understand Padu’s purpose, which goes beyond contributions and subsidies but also offers opportunities for the government to better organise the economy and Malaysia’s development.

“From the efficiency of administrative services to the efforts in addressing poverty and determining the types of investments to attract into Malaysia and Selangor, that is the importance of data.

“Take advantage of the remaining days to register individuals in your respective localities because this (data) is our future and that of the nation’s,” he said during the town hall session with Economy Minister Mohd Rafizi Ramli on Padu at the Shah Alam City Council Convention Center yesterday.

Amirudin added that the country relies on accurate data, information, and facts to plan policies for the people’s benefit.

“It is not based on assumptions or personal views. In the past, many said that rural areas were more impoverished, but the reality is that urban areas face greater difficulties due to the high cost of living, based on the data.

Yesterday, Economic Minister Rafizi Ramli who brainchild the whole idea, said the central database is not only to have an efficient system to disperse government aid to targeted communities but also a one stop centre for future dealings with the government and its agencies.

Currently different ministries and agencies run their own separate data collection mechanism where users will have to key in their details multiple times at various agencies and municipals. PADU in the future will overcome all this as the database provided autofil and have the user profile in hand rendering a more seamless access to government services anywhere, anytime.
