Local Authorities Ordered To Prune Old Trees

Local authorities in Selangor have been instructed to trim old trees to avoid endangering the public in case of collapse, as occurred on Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur on May 7th.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, stated that it is necessary to cut trees to avoid accidents, particularly during heavy rains or strong winds. He urged local authorities to take this matter seriously to ensure the safety of the people living nearby. Amirudin is confident that local authorities have learned from past experiences dealing with falling trees caused by heavy rains around Shah Alam several years ago.

In the recent incident on May 7th, a large tree collapsed near the Monorail station along Jalan Sultan Ismail, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old man and serious injury to a 26-year-old man. The tree also damaged 17 vehicles and the station, temporarily halting operations at the Bukit Nanas, Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang, and Imbi Monorail stations.

As of May 8th, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall have completed their cleaning and repair works, allowing the services to resume.
