NTT DATA, a leading global IT infrastructure and services company, has found that 80% of organisations worldwide believe inadequate or outdated technology is stalling organisational progress and innovation efforts.
In the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, a staggering 93% of C-suite executives feel that legacy infrastructure significantly impedes business agility.
These findings are from NTT DATA’s inaugural Lifecycle Management Report. The report draws on 25 years of data-led insights and explores the challenges and opportunities in infrastructure lifecycle management.
The research, conducted over 2022 and 2023, gathered data from over 248 million active assets across 130 countries, supported by responses from up to 1,400 senior technology decision-makers, including 379 in APAC.
Rapid modernisation, the proliferation of technology consumption models, and a fragmented supplier ecosystem make it challenging for organisations to maintain technology infrastructure that supports business agility and innovation.
The report highlighted that more than two-thirds (69%) of currently active hardware in APAC, with a scheduled last day of support, will no longer be supported by 2027.
The report also reveals that only 59% of enterprises in APAC have fully aligned their technology approach with their business strategy, while 71% of organisations say their network assets are mostly aging or obsolete.
Misaligned lifecycle patterns can lead to inappropriate coverage levels, labor-intensive renewals, extended incident resolution times, security breaches, and costly license violations and compliance issues.
The Lifecycle Management Report provides actionable insights for IT leaders to mitigate these risks and maximise the value of their hardware and software. Key recommendations include:
- Developing a holistic view of technology assets to rationalise potentially misaligned lifecycles.
- Standardising procurement practices and streamlining multi-vendor environments.
- Optimising costs while improving service provision for internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding the sustainability benefits of improved lifecycle management procedures.
