The Shah Alam Sessions Court has fined KK Mart and its supplier, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, RM60,000 each for causing religious offence with socks bearing the word “Allah.” Both companies pleaded guilty to amended charges.
In a related development, KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan, along with his wife Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, were acquitted of criminal charges in the same case.
The court granted a discharge amounting to an acquittal (DAA) to Chai, Loh, and three company directors.
David Gurupatham, counsel for the accused, confirmed the outcome of the proceedings before Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir. He stated that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) agreed with his clients’ letter of representation.
The prosecution team applied for the withdrawal of charges via discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA), but the defence argued for a full acquittal, which the court approved.
