Malaysian Companies Shine At INDEX Saudi Arabia 2024

Malaysian companies made a significant impact at INDEX Saudi Arabia 2024, held from September 17 to 19 in Riyadh. The event, coordinated by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), marked the first appearance of the Malaysian pavilion, attracting attention from buyers across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Despite many companies being first-time participants, Malaysian businesses achieved notable success, further solidifying the nation’s reputation as a leading exporter of premium furniture. The presence of Malaysian exhibitors at the event fostered stronger relationships with regional partners, paving the way for greater market access.

MATRADE’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, stated, “The furniture market size and growth in Saudi Arabia ranks first in the MENA region, projected to reach USD10.64 billion by 2029. The seamless collaboration between MATRADE and MTIB at INDEX Saudi Arabia empowered Malaysian companies to thrive in this exciting market with immense growth potential. Our companies provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, expressing satisfaction with the effective business meetings arranged and the caliber of Saudi partners they connected with. We are confident that these engagements will pave the way for the long-term success of the Malaysian furniture industry.”

Saiful Bahri Salleh, Director General of MTIB, emphasized the significance of collaboration, stating, “This partnership marks a pivotal moment in advancing Malaysia’s global footprint, particularly in the timber industry. By working together, we enhance the visibility and competitiveness of our local companies on the international stage. Our participation in INDEX Saudi Arabia 2024 provides an excellent platform to showcase Malaysia’s high-quality timber products and services, build strategic partnerships, and strengthen trade relations.”

Matthew Law, Director of Jemaramas Jaya Sdn Bhd and Vice President of the Malaysia Furniture Council (MFC), added, “We are honored to participate in INDEX Saudi Arabia and look forward to MATRADE’s continued efforts in organizing similar programs. The in-person engagements were highly beneficial, resulting in successful business dealings and paving the way for further opportunities.”

From January to August 2024, Malaysia’s total global furniture trade surged by 15.5%, reaching RM11.73 billion. Exports experienced robust growth of 11.7%, totaling RM8.34 billion compared to the same period in 2023. This impressive growth reflects not only a recovery but also highlights the resilience and adaptability of the Malaysian furniture industry in the global market.
