The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) will convene a special meeting to discuss concerns surrounding check-in and check-out timings in the hospitality industry. Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing announced that the issue has gained significant attention on social media and in mainstream media, prompting the need for a thorough discussion.
“The purpose of this meeting is to explore the matter in detail and to find a fair solution that does not impose undue burden on customers,” Tiong stated. He emphasized the importance of aligning hotel practices and policies with consumer interests while ensuring the sustainability of a competitive hospitality sector.
Currently representing Malaysia at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation conference, Tiong assured that he would participate in the meeting upon his return. He also noted that Motac would take immediate and effective action to resolve the issue.
“Opinions and suggestions from all stakeholders will be considered during the decision-making process to ensure Malaysia’s hospitality industry remains competitive and customer-friendly,” he added.
Yesterday, Motac announced its monitoring of hotel check-in issues across the country and advised the public to review hotel terms and conditions before making reservations. This announcement follows a social media complaint regarding late check-in times, which sparked extensive debate online.
