Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday plans to expand its investment in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in Vietnam, including the production of its latest mixed reality headsets from 2025. The move is part of Meta’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the country.
The announcement came just a week after Meta’s president for global affairs, Nick Clegg, met with Vietnamese President To Lam in New York. During his visit, Clegg highlighted the importance of Vietnam for Meta’s growth strategy, stating, “Beginning in 2025, Meta will expand manufacturing of its latest Mixed Reality device, Quest 3S, to Vietnam.”
Meta has not disclosed the size of the investment or provided details on its current operations in Vietnam. The company also did not confirm whether the manufacturing would be conducted through suppliers.
The company already has a significant user base in Vietnam, with tens of millions of users on its Facebook platform. Clegg emphasised the country’s importance, saying, “Vietnam continues to be an important country for Meta. Millions of small businesses and consumers rely on our platforms.”
Meta also revealed plans to expand its AI services in Vietnam, announcing it would soon begin testing Meta AI in Vietnamese. This follows the company’s launch of Business AI for Messenger testing in June, with the full rollout expected by the end of this year.
This development comes after another major investment in Vietnam’s tech sector, as SpaceX recently planned to invest $1.5 billion in the near future for the country, signaling Vietnam’s growing importance as a technology hub in the region.
