Tengku Zafrul’s Exit Won’t Affect Ministerial Role, Says PM Anwar

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed that Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s decision to resign from UMNO and signal his intention to join PKR will not affect his position as the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.

Anwar commended Tengku Zafrul’s performance in his ministerial role, particularly in driving key investments into Malaysia.

“Tengku Zafrul is a minister who has carried out his responsibilities very well. Our investments amount to hundreds of billions, many of which have been handled through his efforts,” Anwar said.

He added that Zafrul’s contributions are essential to the country and that he should continue in his current role.

On the political front, Anwar, who is also PKR president, confirmed that the party has not yet formally discussed Tengku Zafrul’s application to join PKR. A decision will only be made after consulting fellow MADANI government coalition partners, and upon Tengku Zafrul’s return from his ongoing haj pilgrimage.

“Let’s not jump to unhealthy conclusions. When someone makes a decision, we respect it,” Anwar stated.

Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from UMNO on May 30, relinquishing his positions as Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. His resignation has since been confirmed by UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
