Australia Eyes Green Economy Opportunities In Malaysia

As Southeast Asia moves toward becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2040, Australia is ramping up efforts to capitalise on the region’s growth, starting with a targeted trade and investment mission to Malaysia this week.

Led by Austrade, Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism Senator the Hon Don Farrell said the delegation includes 30 representatives from 21 Australian organisations, focusing on green economy collaboration.

“The mission aligns with the Albanese government’s strategy to open new trade pathways in priority markets across Southeast Asia.

“Malaysia is emerging as a regional hub for renewable energy, and Australia brings world-class expertise in solar, hydrogen and waste-to-energy,” Don Farrell said in a statement.

He shared that the delegation will participate in the 2025 Energy Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur, featuring the Australian Energy Innovation Showcase, university collaborations on energy literacy and curated business-matching events.

This mission builds on Australia’s broader regional engagement, including the launch of a A$2 billion Southeast Asia Investment Financing Facility, record A$1 billion in trade outcomes last year, and a recently upgraded ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
