NexG Secures RM1.73 Billion Contract To Supply Next-Gen Malaysian Passports

NexG Bhd has secured a six-year contract worth up to RM1.73 billion from the Home Affairs Ministry to supply the next generation of Malaysian international passports through its subsidiary, Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB).

The contract, based on an estimated production of three million passports annually, extends DTSB’s role as the national passport supplier since 2016. The new passports will feature enhanced durability, biometric security and full compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation standards, ensuring seamless use at e-gates and stronger border protection.

Executive Chairman and Group CEO Datuk Hanifah Noordin said the long-term mandate not only ensures world-class passport solutions for Malaysians but also strengthens the group’s platform for growth into secure identification, digital identity and government project enablement.

Hanifah shared that the deal is structured on a pay-per-use basis, ensuring the government only pays for actual passports issued, providing transparency and avoiding upfront capital expenditure.

“To support the mandate, NexG will invest RM250 million in a new high-security, ESG-aligned facility, boosting production capacity and creating high-skilled jobs,” he said.

He added that the contract will deliver a substantial positive financial impact, reinforcing its expansion into adjacent secure identification and digital solutions.
