Prasarana Rail Reliability Surges With Fewer Disruptions in 2025

Rail services under Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have posted strong performance gains this year, with reliability more than doubling compared to 2024.

As of July, the operator recorded a Mean Kilometre Between Failure (MKBF) of 0.54 million km with just 24 disruptions, a marked improvement from 0.33 million km and 71 disruptions in 2024 and 0.16 million km with 118 disruptions in 2023.

Group president and CEO Amir Hamdan credited the results to strategic initiatives including a Condition-Based Maintenance programme, mid-life train refurbishments on the Ampang Line and signalling system upgrades on the Kajang Line.

“Managing millions of passenger journeys daily is a great trust that we bear, to ensure every commuter enjoys a safe and comfortable journey,” Amir said.

Looking ahead, he shared that Prasarana plans to apply the MKBF benchmark to its bus operations, aiming to raise service quality across all modes and cement its role as Malaysia’s leading public transport provider.
