Police Probe AI-Doctored Porn Video Threats Against MPs

Police have launched an investigation into claims by several MPs that they received pornographic video threats, with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) providing technical support.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who confirmed the probe, said the matter is under police investigation and MCMC will assist as the technical agency.

The threats first surfaced when former economy minister and Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli revealed he had been sent a doctored pornographic video allegedly featuring himself and another man. The anonymous sender demanded US$100,000 to prevent its release. Subang MP Wong Chen was also targeted in a similar email.

Most recently, Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said he too was a victim, stressing the video had been fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to tarnish his reputation.

The cases have raised alarm over the use of AI-generated content for blackmail and political intimidation.

With multiple MPs alleging AI-fuelled blackmail attempts, authorities are under pressure to move swiftly as concerns mount over digital threats to political figures.
