Singapore Shares Slip As Weak Factory Data Weighs

Singapore’s market closed lower on Sept 26, with the Straits Times Index (STI) slipping 0.2% (7.88 points) to 4,265.98, tracking weakness across Asia.

Investor sentiment was dampened by disappointing factory output data for August, which recorded a 7.8% year-on-year drop, failing to meet expectations.

In sector action, pharmaceutical stocks saw modest declines following US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement on branded drug imports although US and European peers were largely unchanged.

Markets will now await upcoming economic data, corporate earnings updates and external pressures from global central banks for cues.
