Thailand To Buy Bad Household Debt To Revive Sluggish Economy

Thailand will begin purchasing bad household debt this month as part of efforts to stimulate its slowing economy, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said on Thursday.

Ekniti said the government also plans to support investments in technology while maintaining fiscal discipline to strengthen economic fundamentals.

The move comes as Thailand struggles with high household debt levels that have weighed on consumption and curbed overall economic growth.

His remarks followed the Bank of Thailand’s unexpected decision on Wednesday to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1.50%, signalling continued caution amid weak domestic demand and global uncertainty.
