ASEAN, US Adopt Joint Vision To Boost Regional Prosperity, Security

ASEAN and the US have adopted the ASEAN-US Joint Vision Statement, reinforcing a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and drive inclusive growth across both regions.

ASEAN Chair and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the joint statement marks a key step toward translating strategic ties into concrete results that deliver real benefits to citizens and businesses.

“Grounded in our shared aspirations for peace and prosperity, ASEAN-US relations have evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership. The dynamic economies of the US and Southeast Asia have the potential to usher in a golden age for our nations,” Anwar said at the 13th ASEAN-US Summit.

Anwar shared that the two-way trade between ASEAN and the US hit a record US$453 billion last year, underscoring strong commercial links that support millions of jobs on both sides.

Present at the summit were US President Donald Trump and ASEAN leaders, who pledged to enhance cooperation in trade, technology and regional security.

He further commended Trump’s instrumental role in brokering the KL Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia, a landmark agreement that ends decades of border tensions between both nations.

The accord, witnessed by Anwar and Trump, marks a breakthrough in regional diplomacy and reflects ASEAN’s growing role as a driver of peace, stability and economic resilience in the Indo-Pacific.
