The National Energy Council (MTN) Meeting No. 2 of 2025 today approved sustainable strategies under the Natural Gas Roadmap (NGR), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Chairing the meeting, Anwar said the strategies aim to ensure the nation’s energy security while supporting socio-economic growth and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
“The main focus now is to increase the share of renewable energy to 35% by 2030, expand access to the open grid, and intensify investments in green technologies and new energy, in line with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK13),” he said in a post on his ‘X’ account.
The council also agreed on electricity demand and supply projections for data centres, based on the latest assessments by the Energy Commission.
“In addition, the meeting approved the development of the e-Mobility Service Platform, which will integrate and coordinate operations of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide,” Anwar said.
As Finance Minister, he added, “The MADANI Government remains focused on translating the nation’s energy transition aspirations to make Malaysia a resilient and sustainable low-carbon economy.”
“This is to strengthen a more innovative, competitive and inclusive national energy system, ensuring the well-being of the people and the sustainability of Malaysia’s future,” he said.
