Southern-bound ETS train services from KL Sentral-Johor Bahru are set to commence on Dec 12, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced, marking a significant step in improving connectivity between the capital and southern Malaysia.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Dec 11, with the ministry seeking the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim to officiate the launch in Johor Bahru.
Loke said ETS3 will initially focus on the Johor Bahru-Kuala Lumpur (JB-KL) route to allow higher train frequencies.
“Shorter journeys like JB to KL can run more frequently, unlike longer northern routes which can only operate two trips a day,” he explained.
The ETS3, capable of speeds up to 140 kmh, first began service from KL Sentral to Kluang in August, with Sultan Ibrahim previously taking the helm to drive the train.
