Shangri-La KL Celebrates 40 Years of Care with Festive Charity Tree

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has kicked off the festive season with its much-loved Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree, a tradition that highlights the hotel’s dedication to helping children in need. This annual event celebrates the long-running Embrace the Gift of Life programme, which has been transforming young lives for 40 years.

Since 1985, the initiative has raised nearly RM 6 million to fund life-saving heart surgeries and medical care for hundreds of children. In 2024 alone, 13 children received vital treatments, reflecting the ongoing impact of the programme.

The 2025 Charity Tree is a ten-tier rotating installation decorated with handcrafted ornaments designed by Pastry Artist Chef Wayne Siow and his team, who dedicated more than 600 hours to the project. The lighting ceremony opened with a ballerina performance that set a calm, festive tone as guests gathered for the unveiling.

The event brought together key partners from Gleneagles Hospital, Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Dr Lim Miin Kang and Dr Siti Laura Mazalan helped light the tree, underscoring the essential role medical professionals play in supporting the programme.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur also welcomed refugee children from the UNHCR community and children with special needs from Taman Megah Home for a Christmas High Tea at Lemon Garden. The gathering offered a warm and inclusive celebration, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to community care.

The Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree will remain on display throughout the festive period, inviting guests to contribute to this meaningful cause. Those interested in donating or sponsoring an ornament can contact the hotel for more information.
