Sabahans Want Progress, Not Symbolic Gestures

Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker Datuk Al Hambra Juhar urged assembly members to focus on improving the quality of life for citizens, rather than offering symbolic gestures.

“The people want a better quality of life, not Gardenia bread,” Al Hambra said, reminding lawmakers that their mandate from the last election is a call to work diligently to raise living standards in their constituencies.

He emphasised the importance of assembly members in guiding the state’s development, saying, “The people have high expectations of all of you because you are responsible for uplifting the status of citizens in your respective areas. Some may say not everyone can be wealthy, but everyone has the right to live a better life.”

Al Hambra added that citizens’ priorities go beyond political promises and focus on real improvements in services, economic opportunities, and daily living standards.

“Carry out the promises you have made, and may you be a passionate and visionary leader, and most importantly, a responsible one. I wish you a successful tenure,” he said.

He also acknowledged both returning and new assembly members, hoping the Dewan continues to serve as a platform for policies that benefit the entire state.
