Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Johor and Singapore are set to deepen cross-border collaboration after Johor SME and the Singapore Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME) signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU), creating a structured platform for joint growth, knowledge sharing and market expansion across the region.
The partnership aims to help businesses tackle rising operating costs, tighter regulations and barriers to cross-border expansion, while injecting fresh momentum into the Johor-Singapore regional economy.
Johor SME President Dr Darren Lim noted that while SMEs on both sides have complementary strengths, there was no formal platform to connect them sustainably, hence, this MOU marks a shift from individual business expansion to the joint development of an integrated regional SME ecosystem.
ASME President Ang Yuit highlighted that Malaysia’s abundant land and development space combined with Singapore’s technological and international connectivity create solid foundations for partnership, not competition, enabling SMEs to leverage strengths efficiently and sustainably.
Under the MOU, both parties will focus on mutual member privileges to access networks and break information barriers; joint forums and exchanges to share knowledge, stay ahead of trends and reduce trial-and-error costs; and cross-border market pathways to support steady regional and international expansion
The MOU represents a major milestone in Johor-Singapore SME integration, fostering long-term collaboration and shared economic growth across the region.
