Sarawak Sets Sights On Renewable Energy And High-Tech Growth Beyond 2030

Sarawak will focus on renewable energy, semiconductors, aerospace and human capital development as key drivers of its economy beyond 2030, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Speaking at the ASEAN Sarawak Business & Economic Forum 2026, he said the four sectors will guide the state’s growth as the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) enters its final phase.

“2030 is only four years away. This is the time for us to deliver based on the PCDS 2030. But now we have to think of what we will do beyond 2030,” he said in his keynote address.

Abang Johari highlighted Sarawak’s continued commitment to renewable energy, leveraging its rich natural resources such as hydropower, biomass, solar and hydrogen. The state’s energy generation capacity is projected to reach 10 gigawatts by 2030, positioning Sarawak as a regional green energy hub.

The forum, organised by the ASEAN Business Club, KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific and ASEAN Economic Club, brought together experts to discuss accelerating the energy transition, AI-driven industrial policy and supply chains, development financing and climate policy aimed at enhancing market access and competitiveness.
