Airbnb has rolled out a new flexible payment option for Malaysian travellers, allowing guests to reserve eligible stays worldwide without making an immediate payment.
The “Reserve Now, Pay Later” feature applies to listings with moderate or flexible cancellation policies, with payment due shortly before the end of the free cancellation period.
“This marks a major step forward in Airbnb’s commitment to offering more flexible options for guests that we believe will lead to more bookings for hosts,” the company said.
Hosts retain their chosen cancellation policies, ensuring time to secure another booking if a guest cancels.
The move responds to growing demand for flexibility among travellers, particularly for group trips that require coordinating funds with friends or family.
In a survey conducted by Airbnb and Focaldata, 68% of Malaysian respondents said flexible payment options are important when booking a holiday, while 67% reported using such options, with 88% planning to do so for their next trip.
Nearly half (46%) admitted they had missed out on preferred accommodation due to delays in coordinating payments.
Airbnb’s 2026 travel predictions highlight rising interest in international city getaways, experiences in nature and global events such as Coachella and the FIFA World Cup.
The new payment option is designed to help guests secure rare listings early while managing budgets, complementing existing options like “Pay Part Now, Part Later,” which allows split payments between booking and check-in.
Reserve Now, Pay Later is now available for Malaysian guests booking eligible listings worldwide.
