Malaysia Informs 29,000 Are In Middle East Conflict Zone, Consulates Assisting On Hotel Stays

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. The advisory remains in effect until further notice as the ministry continues to monitor developments in the region.

Currently, flights in the UAE are operating on a limited schedule and may change at short notice. Local authorities have instructed hotels to allow guests affected by disruptions extend their stays under existing bookings and to alert officials if costs become an issue.

The Malaysian Embassy and Consulate are sharing this guidance with Malaysians, helping them negotiate with hotels where needed. All Malaysians who have contacted missions there are reported safe.

In Saudi Arabia, Malaysian Umrah pilgrims are facing flight disruptions. The Consulate General in Jeddah has established a 24-hour Operations Room to coordinate with airlines and safeguard pilgrims’ welfare. All Malaysians who have contacted the mission are confirmed safe.

The situation in Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, and Syria is also under close watch. Qatar has introduced precautionary measures following recent incidents. Meanwhile, Malaysians in Lebanon (including Armed Forces personnel serving with UNIFI) are reported safe. Missions across Iraq, Jordan, and Syria continue to provide guidance and support as needed.

The ministry is updating records of around 29,000 Malaysians in the region and urges those who have not yet registered to do so via e-Konsular at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.
