Bursa Suspends Intraday Short Selling For Three O&G Counter After Sharp Price Drop

Bursa Malaysia has suspended Intraday Short Selling (IDSS) for three energy-related counters after their share prices breached the exchange’s price limit threshold during Tuesday’s trading session.

The affected stocks are Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, Hengyuan Refining Company Berhad, and Petra Energy Berhad.

In separate notices, Bursa Malaysia said short selling for the three counters was halted for the remainder of the trading day after their last done prices dropped by more than 15% or 15 sen from the reference price, triggering the exchange’s automatic suspension mechanism.

Under Bursa Malaysia’s rules, the suspension only applies to intraday short selling activities, while normal trading of the shares continues.

The exchange said IDSS for the affected stocks will resume on the next trading day, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 8.30am.

The temporary suspension mechanism is designed to limit excessive downward price pressure and market volatility caused by short-selling activities when a stock experiences a sharp decline.

All three companies operate within Malaysia’s oil and gas sector, which has seen heightened market volatility amid recent movements in global energy prices and broader investor sentiment.
