Economy Ministry Postpones JS-SEZ Blueprint Launch

The Economy Ministry has postponed the launch of the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS‑SEZ) Blueprint and Masterplan, originally set for Johor Bahru on March 30, to a date yet to be announced.

The ministry announced the decision following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but did not elaborate on the reasons for the deferment. The event was anticipated to unveil the detailed investment blueprint and masterplan guiding the JS‑SEZ’s development.

BusinessToday has reached out to the Economy Ministry for further information, but was informed there are no specific reasons for the postponement beyond the Cabinet decision

The JS‑SEZ, covering over 3,500 sq km in southern Johor including Iskandar Malaysia and Pengerang, represents a landmark collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore to drive cross-border trade, investment and jobs. It aims to harness Johor’s land and labour with Singapore’s capital, targeting sectors like advanced manufacturing, logistics, digital economy and green energy.

The blueprint was expected to detail priority sectors, infrastructure plans, talent strategies and incentives to attract global investors. While the postponement raises questions, the JS‑SEZ remains a cornerstone of bilateral economic ties, with stakeholders awaiting Putrajaya’s next steps on timelines and implementation.
