The current supply of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Malaysia remains stable, with no widespread shortages recorded, according to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, Armizan Mohd Ali.
As reported by Bernama, he said the country’s fuel supply situation is comparatively more stable than in several other regional markets, dismissing recent claims of shortages as isolated logistical issues rather than systemic supply disruptions.
“The issues that have been raised are isolated cases involving delivery delays of several hours at certain locations, particularly during the festive period when demand typically surges,” he said.
Armizan also addressed concerns over alleged shortages at several petrol stations in Sabah, noting that these claims were influenced by developments in neighbouring countries facing supply disruptions. He stressed that Malaysia’s domestic supply remains secure and sufficient.
He urged the public to avoid panic buying, adding that enforcement actions will be taken against any misuse or illegal handling of fuel supplies under the Supply Control Act 1961 Malaysia. The ministry will continue to step up monitoring and enforcement efforts, particularly to curb smuggling and leakage risks, which have intensified amid global fuel price disparities and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Separately, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor emphasised the importance of maintaining consistent fuel supply to support key economic sectors such as logistics, fisheries and agriculture, which remain heavily dependent on diesel.
