Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Japan’s Sanae Takaichi have reaffirmed the strength of Malaysia–Japan relations while exchanging views on the escalating situation in the Middle East.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said both leaders acknowledged the longstanding ties between Malaysia and Japan, which date back to 1957 and have since been elevated under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) framework.
The discussion also reviewed progress in key areas of cooperation, including security, economic collaboration, as well as science, technology and innovation — sectors seen as central to deepening bilateral engagement.
Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s position on the Middle East conflict, stressing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians and a resolution through dialogue and diplomacy in line with international law.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and play a constructive role in promoting regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
